About The Speaker

John Paulson , President of Paulson and Co., Inc., is an American hedge fund manager based in New York City .

Paulson and Co., founded in 1994, had assets under management as of June 1st, 2007 of $12.5 billion, which leapt to $35 billion as of July 2008. The firm has, under the direction of Mr. Paulson, capitalized on the problems in the mortgage backed securities markets. Most recently, he decided to start a new fund that would invest in financial firms that are feeling the pressure of the more than $345 billion of write downs due to under-performing assets linked to the housing market.

Mr. Paulson received his BS in Finance from New York University 's College of Business and Public Administration, where he graduated first in his class, and an MBA from Harvard Business School , where he was awarded the designation of Baker Scholar, the school's top academic honor for graduation in the top 5%.

John Paulson is #165 on the Forbes 400 list of wealthiest Americans.
