About The Speaker

Dr. Samuel D. Waksal is currently managing partner of Kadmon Capital, a private equity group, and the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Kadmon Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company focused on novel next-generation therapeutics in the fields of cancer, viral diseases, and immunological diseases.

Dr. Waksal was the founder, President, and CEO of ImClone systems which grew to be one of the largest biopharmaceutical companies. It was sold to Eli Lilly & Co. a year ago for $6.5 billion. Under Dr. Waksal’s guidance, ImClone developed Erbitux, one of the top-selling cancer drugs in the world.

Dr. Waksal spent the first half of his career in academic medicine. He was a member of the faculty at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, where he was a professor of pathology and the director of the Division of Immunotherapy. He was a visiting investigator at the National Cancer Institute, Immunology branch and was a research associate in the Department of Genetics at Stanford University Medical School, an assistant professor at Tufts University School of Medicine and a senior scientist at the Tufts Cancer research Center. Dr. Waksal was a scholar of the Leukemia Society of America, and has been a visiting professor at the Pasteur Institute in France and the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. He was a member of the Board of Advisors of Rockefeller University and for many years was the Chairman of the New York State Council for the Humanities.
